Technology is unlocking the innate compassion we have for our fellow human beings. - Bill Gates
At Compass Primary, we believe that Computing is an essential part of the curriculum; a subject that not only stands alone but is woven and should be an integral part of all learning. Computing, in general, is a significant part of everyone’s daily life and children should be at the forefront of new technology, with a thirst for learning what is out there. We aim to provide a high-quality computing education which equips our pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. We provide our pupils with computer science which allows pupils to understand the principles of information and computation; how digital systems work, and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Building on this knowledge and understanding, our pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. Our curriculum ensures that pupils become digitally literate at a level suitable for the future workplace, and active participants of a digital world.
Computing is taught in discrete lessons for 1 hour per week using the Purple Mash scheme of work.
The children have access to laptops, a computer suite and iPads throughout the week. Often skills taught in computing lessons are embedded through other areas of the curriculum.
