Michael Rosen

Michael is perhaps one of the best loved and well-known figures in the children’s book world. He is renowned for his work as a poet, performer, broadcaster and scriptwriter.

Born in 1946, he has been involved with over 140 books, and lectures and teaches in universities on children’s literature, reading and writing.

Michael started writing poetry when he was 12 years old, and most are based on his childhood experiences between the ages of 2 and 12, as well as people he knew. By the age of 16, he was an avid poetry reader before heading to college to study acting. Michael, still, has a passion for street rhymes, popular songs and folk stories, but his first career was writing plays.

Originally, he wrote very serious poems, but he quickly established himself as a humorous poet with his collections of poems for children. Michael has created classic picture books such as We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and Sad Book – where he collaborated with Quentin Blake.
