IASS stands for Information, Advice and Support Service. In Northamptonshire, it is known as SENDIASS (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information, Advice and Support Service).

What is IASS?

IASS is a free, impartial, and confidential service that provides information, advice, and support to:

  • Parents and carers of children and young people (aged 0–25) with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND)
  • Children and young people with SEND themselves

The service is delivered independently of the local authority and is designed to help families understand and navigate the SEND system, including:

  • Understanding the Local Offer
  • Accessing educational support

  • Navigating Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plans

  • Exploring personal budgets

  • Resolving disagreements and accessing mediation services

What Support Does IASS Provide?

  • Telephone and email advice

  • Help with understanding reports and paperwork

  • Support with meetings and reviews

  • Advocacy for children and young people during the EHC process

  • Information about local and national services
